New SAT prep apps in 2026: AI tutors, adaptive practice, and prices

What are the best new SAT prep apps in 2026?

The newer SAT prep apps are built for the digital SAT, work on phones, and include AI help. Dolphin offers free iPhone and Android apps with 10,000+ SAT and ACT questions, a video explanation for every question, and Pip, an AI study assistant. Acely and AlphaTest focus on large libraries of practice tests, OnePrep charges once per test date, and Khanmigo adds a $4-a-month AI tutor to Khan Academy.

Good fit when

You want to know which newer SAT apps and AI tools are worth trying and what each one costs.

Before you choose

New apps change quickly, and none of them is official SAT practice. We have not measured which raises scores most. Use College Board's free Bluebook tests to check progress.

What makes the newer SAT apps different

The SAT moved to a digital, adaptive format, and a wave of newer apps followed. Compared with traditional courses, they tend to:

  • Work on a phone, with short sessions instead of long lessons.
  • Include AI help that explains a question or gives a hint.
  • Cost less, often with a free version.
  • Adapt practice to the skills you miss.

The tradeoff: fewer have live teachers, and their practice tests are not official.

How to test a new SAT app in one week

  1. Take one official Bluebook practice test to find your weak skills.
  2. Use the app’s free version daily for a week on those skills.
  3. Check: after an explanation, can you solve a new question on the same skill without help?
  4. Only then pay, and pick a plan that lasts until your test date.

Frequently asked questions

What are the newest SAT prep apps?

Newer SAT prep tools built for the digital SAT include Dolphin (launched on the App Store in August 2025), Acely, AlphaTest, OnePrep, and Khanmigo. In 2026, Google added free SAT practice tests to Gemini and The Princeton Review launched a free SAT app inside ChatGPT.

Are new SAT apps better than older prep courses?

Not automatically. Newer apps tend to be cheaper, built for phones, and include AI help. Older companies like Kaplan and The Princeton Review offer live classes and tutoring. Choose by how your student studies and what help they need.

Which new SAT prep apps are free?

Dolphin's iPhone and Android apps are free. AlphaTest and OnePrep have free plans with limited content, and Gemini's SAT practice tests are free. Khanmigo is $4 a month. College Board's Bluebook and Khan Academy's Digital SAT courses are also free.

Can ChatGPT or Gemini replace an SAT prep app?

They are useful for explanations and planning, but they do not track your practice over time unless a provider builds that in, and their tests are not College Board tests. Check AI explanations against a worked solution.
