How to export your Quizlet sets to Anki

Check that the set is eligible

Quizlet’s help page limits export to sets you created. A set copied from someone else is not eligible. Use the website, since this export is not offered through its mobile apps. If Export is missing, check ownership and the current help page before trying a different workflow.

Export the text

Open your set from the library, open its more menu, and choose Export. Select a layout with a tab between each term and definition and a new line between cards, then copy the text.

Keep a small sample separate from the full export. Ten cards with varied content are more useful for testing than ten nearly identical definitions.

Prepare the import file

Paste the sample into a plain-text file saved as UTF-8. Each record should have a front and a back. Check accents, symbols, line breaks, and empty fields before importing.

For example, your intended two-column structure might be:

Another focused question	Its checked answer

This table illustrates the structure; use the actual exported tab-separated text for the import.

Import and inspect a small sample

In Anki’s desktop app, use File → Import. Choose the file, a destination deck, and an appropriate note type. Check the preview’s separator and field mapping. Inspect duplicate handling before confirming, since matching existing notes can update their fields.

Then open the imported cards and compare them with the original. Check both sides rather than relying only on a successful import message.

Verify what arrived

Use this inspection list before moving the full set:

• Count the records in your sample and the new notes you expected to create.
• Check a card containing a symbol or accented word.
• Check a definition that originally used multiple lines.
• Check the front and back have not been swapped.
• Look for accidental blank cards and unexpected duplicate updates.

If something is wrong, correct the small file and import settings before using the large export. Keep a backup of the destination collection before a large import that could update existing notes.

What does not transfer?

Quizlet’s export supplies text and excludes images. This process does not migrate your Quizlet learning record, account settings, or subscription. Existing progress in a different app is not a field in the text file.
